Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has submitted to parliament a bill on the ratification of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC) and its amendments, the president's office announced on August 15. Ukraine signed the statute in January 2000, but has not ratified it, even though ratification is a condition of the country's 2014 Association Agreement with the European Union. Ratification will "increase the effectiveness of the International Criminal Court's work in relation to Ukraine, to prosecute the crimes of Russian citizens on the territory of Ukraine," deputy presidential administration head Iryna Mudra said.
