A Kremlin-installed official in the Russian-occupied city of Starobilsk in Ukraine’s Luhansk region was killed in a car bombing on April 1, Russian officials said. He was identified as Valery Chaika, deputy head of the district Center for Services to Educational Organizations. Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) opened a criminal case against Chaika in 2023 on charges of collaborating with Russian forces, Ukrainian media reported. Numerous Kremlin-installed officials have been killed or injured in similar attacks in occupied areas since Russia launched its unprovoked invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
