UN Official Says 95 Percent Of Ukrainian Soldiers In Russian Captivity Face Torture

Danielle Bell, the head of mission for the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine, told the NOS television channel in the Netherlands that 95 percent of Ukrainian soldiers captured by Russia face torture. “[Ukrainian soldiers] are subjected to torture during initial interrogation, and that includes being beaten with metal rods, sticks, [they are] stripped, brutally beaten, [tortured] with electric shocks," Bell said, adding that it is "certainly the worst that I have seen in my career of 20 years in the UN, visiting places of detention."
