Seventeen-year-old Denys Kharlashyn lived with his family in Mariupol as Russian forces laid waste to the city. The Ukrainian teenager decided to chronicle his experiences in a daily diary. As Russian rockets rained down, Kharlashyn said he started his journal so there would be some proof he existed.
