The Ukrainian parliament has approved the nomination of Serhiy Arbuzov as the country's new central bank chairman.
Arbuzov, previously first deputy chairman at the bank, was nominated by President Viktor Yanukovych.
His appointment comes after lawmakers earlier in the day accepted the resignation of veteran central bank chief Volodymyr Stelmakh.
Stelmakh led the central bank from 2000-02 and again from 2004 to now.
His replacement could boost Yanukovych's influence over monetary policy.
