Ukrainian Librarian, 81, Salvages Books From Ruined School As New Academic Year Begins

An 81-year-old librarian is rescuing books from her ruined school in eastern Ukraine in order to give them to students. Raisa Krupchenko says "it's impossible to live without literature." Almost 1,900 schools have been damaged or destroyed by Russian shelling since February 24, according to Ukraine's Education Ministry, with many schools unable to reopen as the new academic year begins.
