A UN-appointed chemical-weapons watchdog says Syria has dismantled one of two remaining stockpiles not yet visited by inspectors.
The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), which is charged with overseeing the destruction of Syria's chemical arsenal, says a site near the northern city of Aleppo was dismantled by Syrian forces and abandoned.
The OPCW said in a statement on November 7 that 22 of the 23 chemical-weapons sites declared by Syria to the agency have now been verified.
The Aleppo site could not previously be verified due to safety and security reasons.
Syria has agreed to destroy its entire stockpile of toxic nerve agents by mid-2014.
The report comes after U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power suggested on November 5 that Syria may not have disclosed its entire chemical-weapons program to OPCW inspectors.
