UN cease-fire observers are touring the restive central Syrian city of Homs.
Officials in Homs say the advance team of seven UN monitors met with the governor in the city before starting the tour on April 21.
Activists say that fighting and government shelling stopped in Homs and troops hid tanks in advance of the monitors' visit.
The reports could not be independently verified.
The UN Security Council is expected to vote on April 21 on a resolution to deploy some 300 monitors to Syria to observe a cease-fire brokered by UN-Arab League special envoy to Syria Kofi Annan.
