U.S. Deputy Secretary Of State To Visit Kazakhstan

U.S. Deputy Secretary of State William J. Burns is due to visit the Kazakh capital, Astana, this week.

The U.S. Embassy in Kazakhstan announced on May 5 that Burns will visit Astana on May 7-8 to "affirm the United States’ longstanding commitment to the security and prosperity of Central Asia."

The embassy's statement says "the United States is proud to cooperate on a range of issues including enhancing regional security, increasing space for trade and economic engagement, and strengthening support for civil society and human rights."

Burns will meet with senior Kazakh officials to discuss bilateral and regional issues related to security, politics, and economics.
