U.S. Drone Strike Reportedly Kills Three In North Waziristan

Reports from Pakistan say a suspected U.S. drone strike has killed three people in a northwestern tribal region close to the Afghan border.

Security officials say the attack took place on October 24 in the area of Tapi, near Miranshah, the main town of the North Waziristan district.

The officials say two missiles fired from the unmanned aircraft struck a suspected militant compound and a vehicle parked outside.

U.S. drones routinely hit targets in North Waziristan, one of the tribal areas along the border with Afghanistan that has become a hub of Al-Qaeda and Taliban activity.

The U.S. strikes are deeply unpopular in Pakistan.

The government describes them as illegal and counterproductive to its own efforts against the insurgency.
