The U.S. Justice Department says a former FBI agent has agreed to plead guilty to charges that he leaked secret government information about a bomb plot to The Associated Press news agency.
A statement said the ex-agent, Donald Sachtleben, agreed to a prison sentence of three years and seven months for the leak, as well as for unrelated charges of child pornography possession.
The statement said Sachtleben "willfully disclosed" national defense information to a person not authorized to receive it, "namely a reporter with a national news organization."
The Associated Press story in May, 2012, described a U.S. operation in Yemen to thwart an airline bombing plot.
U.S. officials said the leak compromised the security of an American agent working to undermine Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula.
