The United States has linked the National Iranian Oil Company to the country's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), opening the state-run energy firm to more sanctions.
In a report to Congress, the Treasury Department concluded the revolutionary guard has been coordinating a campaign to sell Iranian oil in violation of international sanctions and pointed to other links with the oil company.
The move opens the oil company up to sanctions that block international third-party entities from access to the U.S. financial system if they do business with it.
The firm is already under other U.S. sanctions that prohibit Americans from doing business with it.
