U.S. Charges 72 Over Global Internet Child Pornography Network

Authorities in the United States have charged 72 people with allegedly being part of a global Internet child pornography network through which tens of thousands of images and videos showing sexually abused children were traded.

Officials said that of the 72 suspects, 43 have been arrested in the United States and others have been arrested in other countries.

Some 20 suspects have not yet been apprehended. Officials said arrests in connection with the probe have been made in 13 other countries -- Canada, Denmark, Ecuador, France, Germany, Hungary, Kenya, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Qatar, Serbia, Sweden and Switzerland.

Officials said some of these arrests were on local charges, rather than U.S. charges. Investigators say participants in the network sexually abused children age 12 and under, including infants, and produced images and video of the abuse to share with other members of what has been described as an Internet pedophilia club.
