U.S. President Barack Obama has announced the United States will provide financing to help Tunisia through its transition to democracy after decades of authoritarian rule.
Obama was speaking after talks in Washington with Tunisian Prime Minister Beji Caod Essebsi, the first transitional leader from a so-called "Arab Spring" country to visit the White House.
The United States is expected to provide a package including loans and trade assistance, in addition to the $39 million that Washington gave Tunisia after the February ouster of longtime president Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali.
