Chinese President Arrives In Tashkent

Chinese President Xi Jinping upon his arrival in St. Petersburg earlier this week ahead of the Group of 20 summit.

China's President Xi Jinping has arrived in the Uzbek capital, Tashkent, on the latest stop of his Central Asian tour.

Uzbek President Islam Karimov met Xi at the airport the evening of September 8 for an official welcome ceremony.

The two leaders are scheduled to hold talks on September 9.

Xi has already visited Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan. He also attended the Group of 20 summit in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Following Xi's visit to Uzbekistan, the Chinese leader will travel to neighboring Kyrgyzstan for an official visit that includes attending a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, which will include leaders from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan as well as officials from Afghanistan, Iran, India, Mongolia, and Pakistan.
