Georgian national Viktor Kipritidi was killed last week in Ukraine while fighting alongside Ukrainian armed forces against Russia's ongoing invasion, his son told RFE/RL on August 29. The body of the 49-year-old Kipritidi is expected to be repatriated to Georgia on August 30. Kipritidi, a native of Georgia's breakaway region of Abkhazia, joined Kyiv's armed forces right after Russia launched its full-scale aggression against Ukraine in February 2022. He initially joined the Georgian Legion and later became a soldier of the Ukrainian armed forces. Kipritidi is the 70th Georgian national known to have been killed in the war.
