Welsh Parliament Recognizes Holodomor As Genocide Of Ukrainian People

It is estimated that up to 9 million people died as a result of executions, deportation, and starvation during the Holodomor.

The Welsh parliament has approved a resolution recognizing the 1932-33 Holodomor as a genocide of the Ukrainian people, the Ukrainian Embassy in London said on October 25. This is a “significant milestone in restoring historical justice and raising awareness about the millions of innocent victims!” the embassy said. The embassy said the Welsh parliament also recognized journalist Gareth Jones, saying his legacy “deserves a wider recognition by the international community." Despite a warning from Soviet authorities to remain silent, Jones published news about the Holodomor in the Western media in 1933 after witnessing atrocities against Ukrainians.
