The winning World Press Photo Of The Year, from Burhan Ozbilici of Associated Press, was also part of a series, "An Assassination in Turkey", which won the Spot News - Stories category. Ozbilici captured the moments before and after Altintas, an off-duty policeman, drew a handgun and shot Karlov at a photo exhibition.
