A Moscow court on September 30 sentenced a man to life in prison after finding him guilty of attempting to murder pro-Kremlin writer and political activist Zakhar Prilepin. The Second Western Military District Court ruled that Aleksandr Permyakov will serve the first five years of his term in a cell-like penitentiary and the rest of his term in a special regime prison. Permyakov was also ordered to pay 700,000 rubles ($7,600) fine. Prilepin was wounded in a car bombing in the Russian city of Nizhny Novgorod on May 6 last year.
