Iran and Pakistan are ratcheting up the pressure against the millions of Afghans living in their countries illegally. For those who worked with the former Afghan government, including members of the military and police forces, deportation would mean arrest, enforced disappearance, or death.
Over 300,000 Afghan refugees have been forced to return from Pakistan in recent weeks. Many are struggling to find shelter and sleep out in the open. Aid agencies warn that they lack the most basic needs, such as food, shelter and sanitation, and their arrival will aggravate a humanitarian crisis.
