Job Title: Freelance Disinformation Reporter

Location: Remote (Can be based anywhere)

About Radio Farda: Radio Farda delivers independent news and analysis for audiences in Iran and around the world. In our commitment to transparency and combating misinformation, we are seeking a Freelance Disinformation Reporter to uncover, verify, and report on disinformation campaigns impacting Iranian society and the broader Middle East region.

Position Summary: The Freelance Disinformation Reporter will work remotely to track, analyze, and debunk false narratives and misinformation targeting Iranian audiences. This role requires proficiency in digital verification, investigative techniques, and OSINT methods to identify trends and provide the Iranian public with accurate, fact-based information. Strong analytical skills and familiarity with disinformation tactics, especially in the Middle East, are crucial for this position.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Investigative Reporting: Track and expose disinformation campaigns affecting Iran and the region, producing well-researched, accessible reports and multimedia content.
  • Digital Verification: Use OSINT tools, reverse image searches, geolocation, and social listening to verify content circulating on social media and messaging platforms.
  • Data-Driven Analysis: Analyze digital patterns to uncover sources and tactics of disinformation campaigns, focusing on narratives affecting Iranian audiences.
  • Collaboration: Coordinate with Radio Farda editors, social media teams, and digital content creators to enhance the reach and accuracy of disinformation-related reporting.
  • Audience Engagement: Produce explainers and digital pieces that help audiences identify and navigate disinformation.
  • Build Networks: Maintain connections with researchers, verification specialists, and regional experts to stay current on new disinformation tools and trends.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Digital Media, Political Science, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in investigative journalism, fact-checking, or disinformation reporting.
  • Expertise in digital verification and OSINT techniques, particularly on social media platforms.
  • Strong writing skills in both Farsi and English.
  • Ability to manage projects independently, meet deadlines, and collaborate remotely.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with regional disinformation networks and knowledge of Iranian social and political dynamics.
  • Additional language skills, especially relevant Middle Eastern languages.
  • Experience working with data visualization or multimedia storytelling.
