We are looking for a versatile and experienced Journalist for Russian Service based in Riga who is passionate about creating impactful, high-quality content across platforms—radio, TV, online, social media, and print. In this role, you will develop original content, report from the field, and adapt to the ever-evolving needs of news delivery, all while adhering to RFE/RL’s high editorial standards. 

What is expected in this role? As Journalist, you will, among other things, be responsible for:  

  • Producing original content on a wide variety of topics, from news bulletins and features to in-depth analyses, tailored to RFE/RL’s platforms. 
  • Translating content as needed and producing running orders for programs. 
  • Conducting field reporting, including interviews, gathering information, and creating compelling narratives. 
  • Acting as an editor for specific segments or programs, commissioning and selecting material. 
  • Handling multimedia tasks, including moderating live discussions, blogging, recording, and producing content like photos, videos, and graphics. 
  • Monitoring political, economic, and social developments in the target region, ensuring content is timely and relevant. 
  • Exploring innovative coverage angles and contributing ideas to program planning. 
  • Participating in program feedback sessions and implementing improvements to meet or exceed RFE/RL’s editorial standards. 
  • Building and maintaining contacts within local media and the broader community to support journalistic work and enhance RFE/RL’s reputation. 

Interested? We would love to hear from candidates who demonstrate the following:  

  • Proven ability to handle at least one selected platform or media, with a general awareness of other media and platforms. 
  • Proficient in working with audio and video equipment, content management systems, and digital tools. 
  • Strong editorial judgment with the ability to develop and deliver quality content according to RFE/RL standards and best practices. 
  • Familiarity with RFE/RL’s systems and workflows, including program scheduling. 
  • A supportive team player with a proactive approach to learning, coaching, and professional development. 
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, capable of managing multiple responsibilities and meeting deadlines. 
  • Education: Master’s degree in journalism or a related field (mandatory). 
  • Work Experience: 5–8 years of experience as a journalist with demonstrated expertise in reporting, editing, and content production. 
  • Languages: Native-level fluency in Russian (mandatory); intermediate-level proficiency in English (oral and written).
