We are looking for an External Affairs Associate to join our multi-disciplinary External Affairs team in Washington. The incumbent will report to the Senior External Affairs Officer, but will work closely with the entire team, which is split between Prague and Washington, D.C., as well as with stakeholders across the organization.

RFE/RL is a multi-platform media organization with a $140+ million budget. We employ over 1,400 staff and engage thousands of freelancers in over 20 countries and produce content in 27 languages. Our mission is to promote democratic values by providing accurate, uncensored news and open debate in countries where a free press is threatened, and disinformation is pervasive. RFE/RL is a private, nonprofit Sec. 501(c)3 corporation, and is funded by a grant from the U.S. Congress through the United States Agency for Global Media (USAGM) as a private grantee.
What is expected in this role? As External Affairs Associate, you will among other things be responsible for:
- Acting as office manager for the Washington External Affairs team
- Providing administrative support to the External Affairs Team and the Legal Department, including:
- Schedule coordination (including for President and senior Prague-based executives during visits to the U.S.)
- Preparing purchase requisitions and monitoring the approval process
- Administering the team’s internship program
- Maintaining and updating the team’s relationship management database (Quorum)
- Drafting and fact-checking weekly reports, correspondence, and other documents as assigned
- Coordinating travel arrangements for Washington-based External Affairs staff. This includes the preparation of travel requests, coordinating reservations and ticketing with Prague-based Travel team, booking accommodations and reserving office workspace, arranging per diem payments, and preparation of related expense reports
- Assisting the Legal Department with various administrative tasks, including legalizing documents, preparing budget requisitions, and overseeing the logistics of RFE/RL Board meetings. (Once hired, the company will ask the incumbent to become certified as a notary public, with expenses paid by the company.)
- Supporting public outreach and events-related activities of RFE/RL, including:
- Congressional outreach, public events, and historical documentation in Washington
- Public outreach and events-related activities in Prague as assigned.
What we are looking for:
- At least two years office management or executive assistant experience supporting an international team.
- Experience with simple expense and budget management.
- Experience in supporting high-level event planning.
- Demonstrated ability to use standard office software, including the Microsoft Office suite.
- Experience working in a multicultural environment
- Has high-level, demonstrable proficiency in English composition, grammar, spelling and punctuation skills
- Knowledge of RFE/RL’s region and experience in a public relations or communications team are a plus
