Arrests Made During Customs Union Protest
Nine protesters were detained by Armenian police over a protest near the presidential compound in Yerevan against the September 3 decision by President Serzh Sarkisian to join the Russian-led Customs Union. The deputy chief of the Yerevan Police, Valeri Osipian, told RFE/RL’s Armenian Service that the protesters were taken to the police station because they had "violated public order."
