Macedonian Protesters Face Off With Police
Protesters gathered in the Macedonian capital, Skopje, for a second night on May 20 in the wake of the murder of a 19-year-old man, allegedly by an ethnic Albanian perpetrator. Police blocked off streets in the Gjorce Petrov district and used tear gas and stun grenades to disperse the crowds. A strong police presence remained in the streets the following morning. On the first night of unrest, on May 19, rioters destroyed several shops and cafes owned by ethnic Albanians. (RFE/RL's Balkan Service)
