Viral Video Alleges Dog Cruelty In Azerbaijan

A video allegedly showing a place where stray dogs are destroyed in Azerbaijan has caused outrage on social media. Animal rights campaigner Yelena Simakina, who shot the video on February 27, claims authorities shoot the larger dogs but kill smaller ones with shovels to save bullets. Activists say Baku is trying to clear the streets of stray dogs ahead of the European Games in June. The presidential office said the video was a fake aimed at discrediting Azerbaijan.
