Marriage Within Families Blamed In Tajik Birth Defects Cases
In parts of Tajikistan, marriage between cousins is common -- and doctors say that the custom leads to higher incidences of genetic abnormalities in those couples' children. RFE/RL's Tajik Service spoke to doctors and patients' relatives at a hospital in the Khatlon region, where children with birth defects are receiving treatment.
