Turkmenistan Demolishes Suburbs Of Capital City

The demolition of thousands of homes has been taking place in Shor and Choganly, two suburbs of the Turkmen capital, Ashgabat. The authorities say the houses have been built illegally, and have not been offered compensation. However, residents say the demolitions are part of efforts to redevelop Ashgabat ahead of the 2017 Indoor Asian Games. (RFE/RL's Turkmen Service)
