India, Pakistan Mark Independence With Border Ceremony
India and Pakistan marked 70 years of independence with an energetic flag-lowering ceremony on their shared border. The sunset event at the Wagah crossing is a daily tourist favorite, but on August 15 it took on special meaning as both countries celebrate the anniversary of British colonial rule ending in 1947. The elaborate marches and salutes are meant to show both rivalry and cooperation between the neighboring countries. It has been maintained despite frequent cross-border tensions. (Reuters)
