Serbian President Pays Respects To Slain Kosovar Serb Politician
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic visited the ethnically divided Kosovar town of Mitrovica on January 20 where he paid his respects to Oliver Ivanovic, an ethnic Serb political leader in Kosovo who was shot dead outside his Mitrovica office on January 16. Vucic laid a wreath at the site in heavy snowfall amid tight security. Speaking earlier in the day at Banjska monastery, 15 kilometers north of Mitrovica, Vucic said that Serbia will do its utmost to ensure the durability of peace and security for every Serbian and Albanian family. Officials say the two-day visit is an effort to ease tensions among Kosovar Serbs following the killing of Ivanovic. (RFE/RL’s Balkan Service)
