From The Archives: Crackdown On Tiananmen Square
On June 4, 1989, the Chinese military took swift and violent action against pro-democracy protesters on and around Beijing's Tiananmen Square. The death toll is still unknown, but estimates range from the hundreds to the thousands. File footage shows armored vehicles crashing through barricades, protesters running from gunfire, and a standoff between a lone unarmed protester and a column of tanks. (Reuters video)
