U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry has pledged Washington's support to help Georgians gain visa-free travel to the European Union.
Kerry emphasized on February 26 that the United States backs Georgia integrating with the EU and NATO, with a view to the Caucasus country's eventually joining the two alliances.
Kerry said the United States hopes Georgia will be successful in signing a partnership agreement with the EU later this year.
Kerry spoke during a meeting with Georgian Prime Minister Irakly Garibashvili.
Kerry said Washington's policy toward former Soviet countries is not aimed at reducing Russian influence in the region.
He said Washington wants to see those countries develop into robust democracies with strong economies.
