Merkel, Schulz Cast Ballots In German Parliamentary Elections
Germans headed to the polls on September 24 in closely followed elections for the Bundestag, the lower house of the country's parliament. German Chancellor Angela Merkel, the leader of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), voted in Berlin. Merkel's main rival is former European Parliament President Martin Schulz, now the main candidate for the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD). Schulz voted in his hometown of Wuerselen near the Dutch border. (Reuters)
