Islamabad Braces For Islamist Protests Over Muhammad Caricatures
Pakistani authorities used shipping containers and earth-moving equipment to block roads leading to Islamabad and Rawalpindi ahead of planned protest marches by followers of a radical Islamist organization. Tehrik-e Labaik Pakistan (TLP), a Sunni extremist group, called on its followers to protest the government of Prime Minister Imran Khan for its failure to expel the French ambassador to Pakistan. The group has been calling for action against the ambassador because of the publication of caricatures of Prophet Muhammad in a French magazine in late 2020.
