A spokesperson for Mikhail Khodorkovsky says the former Russian tycoon will not attend his mother’s funeral, which has been scheduled for August 11 in the town of Korallovo near Moscow.

Khodorkovsky's spokeswoman, Olga Pispanen, said on August 5 that Khodorkovsky was currently unable to visit Russia.

Khodorkovsky' mother, Marina Khodorkovskaya, died at the age of 79 on August 3 in a Berlin clinic where she was undergoing treatment for cancer.

Khodorkovsky, the former chairman of the now dismantled Yukos oil company and once Russia's richest man, was jailed in 2003 on tax-evasion and embezzlement charges.

Those charges were widely seen as politically motivated.

After spending 10 years in a Russian prison, Khordorkovsky was pardoned and released in December 2013.

Khodorkovsky was allowed to travel to Berlin shortly after his release.
