Thousands of believers took part in the annual Velikoretsky procession from June 3 to 8 to venerate an icon of St. Nicholas, said to have been discovered on the banks of the Velikaya River in the 14th century. The route covers a total of 150 kilometers from Kirov to the village of Velikoretskoye and back. At least 17,000 pilgrims, loaded with backpacks and sometimes barefoot, walked in the procession, one of the largest pilgrimages in Russia.
