KARACHI, Pakistan – An explosion at a political party meeting in the city of Karachi has killed 11 people and wounded some 50 others.
Abdul Malik, the spokesman for the Awami National Party (ANP), told RFE/RL’s Radio Mashaal that a bomb went off minutes before ANP candidate Bashir Jan was due to address a meeting in the Mominabad district on April 26.
Jan was not injured by the explosion, which could be heard several kilometers away.
Radio Mashaal reports it was the third attack in four days on campaign meetings.
Pakistan’s Taliban has threatened to attack candidates and supporters of secular political parties as campaigning continues for May 11 parliamentary elections.
