Pakistani officials have lowered the death toll from flash flooding caused by monsoon rains in the country's northwest.
Officials on July 4 said that the correct death toll from flash floods and torrential rains that struck Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province was 33, not 41 as earlier made public.
They said the higher count was due to duplications in death reports.
The deaths occurred amid heavy overnight monsoon rains which began on July 2 and 3.
Most of the victims -- 29 people -- died when a flash flood struck the village of Arsun, in Chitral district, washing away homes and other buildings. The remote village had received no evacuation warning ahead of time.
District Deputy Commissioner Usama Waraich said 13 people were still missing in Chitral.
Separately, two Chinese engineers and two Pakistani workers died when the monsoon rains caused the roof of a construction site to collapse at Tarbela Dam, also in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province.
