A lawyer for Pakistan's former President Pervez Musharraf, who is on trial for treason, says the retired general has been advised to go to the United States for medical treatment.
Lawyer Anwar Mansoor Khan said he submitted a letter to the Islamabad court on January 16 asking that Musharraf be transferred to the Paris Regional Medical Center in Texas.
He said the doctors of the medical center recommended that Musharraf should be shifted to that clinic for further treatment.
The 70-year-old is currently in a military hospital in Rawalpindi with a heart condition, after falling ill while travelling to the court two weeks ago.
Musharraf has yet to appear in person before the three-judge panel, after missing repeated hearings.
Musharraf is accused of treason for suspending the constitution and imposing emergency rule in November 2007.
