Turkmenistan marks its national Flag Day holiday on February 19.
President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov and members of the government are due to start the day by placing flowers at the Monument of Independence before celebrations start, which this year are an extension of the festivities that have been going on since February 17 when Berdymukhammedov was sworn in for a second term in office.
The main events are at the Olympic stadium in Ashgabat where a number of performances were scheduled.
Flag Day was marked for the first time on February 19, 1997.
The holiday coincides with the birthday of Turkmenistan's first president, Saparmurat Niyazov, who died in December 2006.
