Donetsk Residents Stage Rare Anti-War Protest
Hundreds of people in the separatist-held city of Donetsk, in eastern Ukraine, staged a rare protest against the war on June 15. The protestors' main complaint was that separatist forces were firing on Ukrainian army positions from populated areas, putting civilians in danger when Ukrainian forces returned fire. Alexander Zakharchenko, the leader of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic, came to speak to the protestors on crutches. He told them separatist forces had to fire to protect the city. (AP)
