Fierce fighting between Iraqi security forces and insurgents has taken place in the western province of Anbar.

In the city of Fallujah, the Fallujah General Hospital was shelled on June 3, leaving at least 10 people dead and 18 others wounded.

The campus of the Fallujah University's College of Agriculture was also hit by gunfire, but no casualties were reported.

Classes were suspended at the university.

Government security forces have been battling Al-Qaeda-linked militants holding Fallujah and parts of the provincial capital, Ramadi, since the beginning of the year.

Two bridges in northeastern Ramadi were heavily damaged after being blown up late on June 2.

To the northeast, the military engaged in violent clashes with insurgents in Al-Garma on June 3, but failed to move into the town.
