Crowd Attempts To Storm Polling Station In Georgian Village

Dozens of men clashed with Georgian police on October 8 when they tried to storm a polling station in the village of Kizilajlo, some 40 kilometers southwest of the capital, Tbilisi, as the post-Soviet, Caucasus country went to the polls to elect a new parliament. Police were inside the polling station when groups of people outside began throwing stones and breaking windows. The police then held people back to prevent them from entering the station. The Georgian Interior Ministry has blamed the opposition United National Movement for the violence. The ministry also said two police officers had been injured in the incident.
