At least 11 people were killed and more than 30 wounded in explosions in Hilla, south of the capital.

It wasn't immediately clear who was responsible for the attacks, which are only the latest of the daily violence shaking Iraq.

More than 1,500 people are reported to have been killed in violence in Iraq since the start of the year.

Bloodshed has occurred in connection with high tensions between minority Sunni Arabs and majority Shi'a, and the ongoing conflict between security forces and Islamist insurgents in the western Anbar Province.
