Rat poison found in bread in a kindergarten in the town of Yurga in Russia's Siberian Kemerovo Oblast has sparked mass food inspections in educational institutions in the region.

The regional governor, Aman Tuleyev, ordered police and consumer rights watchdog agency Rospotrebnadzor on September 30 to fully investigate the case.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the tainted bread had been produced by a local bakery.

The regional governor's press service also said that Tuleyev had ordered a reward be given to the vigilant cook, who had discovered the rat poison granules in the bread.
