Field Broadcast Engineer

We are looking for a Field Broadcast Engineer, who will be responsible for maintenance and installation on all equipment items in the RFE/RL’s bureaus as well as in Prague’s broadcast center. The work includes troubleshooting faulty equipment and developing solutions to support RFE/RL’s mission while providing trouble call customer assistance and field support to the bureaus. Also participates in the planning and coordination of remote broadcasts and special events.

Your responsibilities:

  • Ensure that Field/Bureau Engineering projects are completed in a timely, efficient and professional manner.
  • Complete the construction and installation of broadcast equipment and studios in Bureaus and for special events. Provide advice, guidance and training to the Bureau staff.
  • Assist in developing Standard Operating Procedures for the Bureau/Field Engineering section.

Your profile:

  • Engineering or related technical field (Secondary)
  • Experience in the relevant technical discipline 2 years as minimum.
  • Working knowledge of Broadcast Audio/Video compression and transmission technologies.
  • Experience in working with digital and analog studio equipment, radio/TV digital and analog signal distribution systems.
  • Experience in making hardware equipment operational and configured.
  • Relevant software knowledge.
  • Understands and meets customer needs in a helpful way, whether they are internal or external clients.
  • Ability to work with others on a team - be a team player, who can interact and operate effectively with peers and other associates within a collegial, and yet demanding work environment.
  • Willing to travel on a regular basis.
  • Good knowledge of Czech and English languages.
  • Knowledge of other RFE/RL broadcast languages is an advantage.

This is a locally recruited full-time, permanent position starting with one-year contract with the aim of its extending as open-ended after the first year. The opportunity is open preferably to the candidates based in the Czech Republic who can work without working visa and are willing to work in RFE/RL Prague’s office.

Appointment against this post is on a local basis only. Please note that for the locally advertised positions preference will be given to those with a work permit and/or a valid residence status in the Czech Republic. Locally recruited employees should reside within commuting distance of Prague, Czech Republic, or be willing to move to take up work. They are not eligible for allowances applicable to candidates who are internationally recruited. Rather, they receive statutory benefits as per Czech labor law. Salary scales for locally recruited employees are based on the best prevailing local conditions. RFE/RL does, however, cover the costs of interview travel and, upon appointment, some relocation costs.
